The Story Of English Essay, Research Paper The Story of English Many people may inquire, # 8221 ; What is the Bayeux Tapestry? # 8221 ; In the undermentioned paragraphs, the significance of the Bayeux Tapestry will be recognized. First of all it should be understood that it is non a Tapestry in the full sense of the word. It is an embellishment. It was constucted from eight separate pieces of linen which were joined to do up it s length. It is about 70 metres long and a half a metre broad. It is apparent that at one phase it ws longer, likely by every bit much as seven or eight metres are losing. This is a calamity as it may hold answered many of the inquiries that gives cause for argument today. It is by and large agreed that Bishop Odo was the designer who commisioned the Bayeux Tapestry. If it is moderately confident that Bishop Odo commissioned the Tapestry, argument still reigns as where to it was constructed, and by whom. It fundamentally comes down to the commitments. If one is Gallic, they would wish to believe that it was made in France. There are so many hints in its building that indicate otherwise. Whereas it is known as the Bayeux Tapestry in England, it is sometimes referred to in France as the Tapisserie de la reine Mathilde or Queen Matilda s Tapestry. Matilda, one will retrieve, was William s married woman. To deduce that she and she entirely constructed this work of art defies all credibleness. As Queen of England and Duchess of Normandy, she would neer hold had the clip. Another factor which excludes her from the equation is that she does non look in it herself ( although she may hold been in the missing subdivision ) . So if you discount the building being undertaken in France, where was it made? Over the old ages, the Tapestry has been studied by experts in this field and the consensus of sentiment is that it was of English building. Certain historical facts of the clip and characteristics of the Tapestry indicate where it was made. Following the conflict in 1066, Bishop Odo was made Earl of Kent. This was partially because he was William s half brother and secondly because William was responsibility edge to refund the trueness of his Lords. Another inquiry comes to mind, who designed it? This is a more hard inquiry to reply. If one stands back and expression at the Tapestry as a whole, they can comprehend a certain flow which indicates an artistic feeling in so much as the design was by one individual. Be this individual male or female? Certain scenes in the Tapestry are graphic and bloody during the conflict. It seems impossible that a adult female would be able to comprehend some of the seems depicted without being at the conflict. It seems to unreal that a adult female would be able to comprehend some of the seems depicted without really at the conflict. It ws most likely designed by a adult male, who was Gallic, and who perchance was involved in or was an eyewitness to the conflict. The Tapestry that exists today covers the reaching of Harold in Normandy and concludes with his decease and licking of the English. Some of the scenes depicted are private, such as the decease of Edward the Confesssor and Harold curse over holy relics. This information had to be gathered and placed in chronological order. No 1 adult male could hold been involved in this exercising. As stated earlier, the Tapestr Y was constructed out of eight strips of linen. Whether each subdivision was made seperately or run up together first is unknown. The designs were perchance lightly drawn on the linen and the embriodery topographic points on top. Like so many artefacts, the Bayeux Tapestry survived through fortune and through certain persons and groups. Following its building in the decennary following the conflict, the exact day of the month or clip it took to build is non known, it was transported to Bayeux. Here it is assumed, it was put on show in the church of Notre Dame, which was consecrated by Bishop Odo in 1077. The Tapestry remained within the Cathedral walls for the following 400 old ages. Small is known or involvement shown for another 300 old ages. However, involvement began to mount around 1750 in England where it was referred to in a work entitled the Palaeographia Britainnicus. No effort was made to look into it farther by the English. In 1792, the seeds of the civil war has been sown. The Tapestry was in danger when the Gallic revolution begun. It was at this clip that the really existance of this masterpeice held in the balance. But for the actions of one adult male, a Lambert Leonard Leforestier, it would h old been lost. The people of Bayeux now contending for the Republic used cloth to cover their waggons. There was a deficit of fabric until person remembered a supply if it in the Cathedral. It was removed and used to cover a waggon, When Lambert saw what was happenning, he replaced the Tapestry with the other fabric. The people of Bayeux, determined neer to let this to go on once more, the metropolis council set up all right humanistic disciplines council to protect its hoarded wealths. It was merely every bit good that they did because two old ages subsequently in 1794, it was once more to be cut up and used as ornament for a public vacation. In 1803 it was removed under protest by Napoleon and transpoted to Paris. Napoleon used the Tapestry as insinspiration for his planned onslaught on his natural enemy Engalnd. When this was aborted, it was returned to the people of Bayeux. Frightened of losing the Tapestry, the council kept the Tapestry on a coil. This tended to stretch the embellishment but at lest it was safe. In 1818, the being of the Tapestry was doing great involvement in England. To this terminal, an English draftsman was sent to Bayeux to inspect and catalogue it. By inspecting every pin hole, he devised a plan of Restoration. In 1842, fixs were affected in Bayeux. The Tapestry was once more removed in 1870 during the Franco Prussian was but returned to its glorification 2 old ages subsequently. Here it remained on show until 1913 prior to the eruption of World War 1 ehere it was once more removed and stored in a safe topographic point. The same action occured during the secon Worl War, it was removed for safe maintaining and out of the custodies of Nazi Germany who intended to roll up art from conquered states. On the 6th of June 1944, a rearward invasion took topographic point. This was known as D. Day. To avoid the Tapestry from being damaged during the struggle, it was in secret moved to the Louvre in Paris where it was stored in their vaults. Following the resignation of Germany, the Tapestry was displayed once more in Paris in all its glorification. The undermentioned twelvemonth it was returned to Bayeux under legal power of the municiple library. Today it is on show in Bayeux and can be viewed by the general populace. The Tapestry was designed and constructed moderately shortly after the conflict in 1066. It was made without any shadow of a uncertainty to observe and record for descendants the events taking up to conflict and its wake.

A Feeling of Accomplishment

I’ve always been a not so active person and didn’t like big changes. But this time I couldn’t do anything about it, I was going to high school. The first thing I noticed was that the school was very small and in a huge building. I had so many different teachers and they all asked for different stuff, but everything was normal. A new year, a new starting point in my life, and I had to become active. It took me a couple of months to realize that I had to try something new. There was an old man around his 50’s always walking around the hallway. His name was Mr. Rey .He use to wear formal clothes, brown dressing pants with a blue Civil Air Patrol shirt, and some black shoes. He seemed nice but I didn’t dare talking to him. Until one day, he came to my History class and gave us a speech about flight. It was just like a sleeping pill almost half of the class felt asleep and I was trying my best to stay awake. It was around two months later when some friends convinced me to join the flight program after school. The first few week I was absolutely lost, and plus I had to hear him tell me the same thing over and over again. Every day after class he told me about all the opportunities, activities and trips we had, and about how I was supposed to try my best. All this made me feel like I needed to understand what he was talking about during class, but it was harder then what it seemed like. I hated being the outsider, I felt dumb and the worst part was that I wanted to learn, but like they say â€Å"Everything is hard until you learn it, then it becomes easy†. Time passed by fast, I already had about five months in the program and it was time to try the real thing. After class Mr. Rey told me I was flying on the upcoming Saturday, all this made me feel nauseous. I just glanced at him and wanted to say no, but words didn’t come out my mouth. On my way home I asked myself how I had gone so far, why didn’t I quit when I felt dumb. Two days until Saturday and I was already freaking out. Everyone seemed happy about the news, and I just didn’t want to think about it. Friday night was awful, I couldn’t stop feeling the anxiety and my eyes just wouldn’t close.Unfortunately for me it was Saturday, and at 8:00am we arrived at Republic Air Port in Farmingdale. My hands could stop sweating and it all got worst when Mr. Rey said that girls go first. I packed my stuff ready and got into the piper. My hands suddenly stopped sweating, it was a strange feeling I never felt before. I took off and landed all by myself and actually did pretty good. When I was in the ground I couldn’t believe what I’ve done. I asked myself what had happened to the old me. Where was the shy and afraid to change girl? That’s when I realize Mr. Rey had changed me he always used to push me just a little further and further each time. That’s when I realized I was definitely not the same girl.Sometimes we think people have nothing to do with what we turn out to be, but I can truthfully tell you Mr. Rey changed my life. I fell more confident and am sure that if I set my mind to something at the end ill taste the sweet feeling of accomplishment.

The Role Of Stakeholders In Passing The Proposed Amendment 1 Assignment

The Role Of Stakeholders In Passing The Proposed Amendment 1 - Assignment Example Due to the dynamic nature of the world politics, the intended role of politicians voted by voters as slowly narrowed to self-centered interests. It is evident that majority of the politicians across the world, become active when discussing issues affecting their welfare, for instance, an increment of allowances (Gowing, & Arnold, 1974). On the other hand, they remain reluctant in passing proposed amendments in other sectors such as nursing. This is in contradiction with the noble calling to serve the subjects. This calls for stakeholders from all fronts including the nurses to participate actively or passively in the splendid role of spearheading passing of proposed amendment. It is notable that the stakeholders can participate in policy change through lobbyist’s influence (Bristol, 2004). The activists have the capacity to sway the subjects to vote for or against a policy; however, this depends on the past record in telling the truth in their bid to make their opinion superio r.In conclusion, it is a fundamental role for relevant stakeholders to participate in passing the proposed amendment because; the political class may ignore an important policy because of self-interest. It is notable that, the participation of the stakeholders creates a platform, which is irresistible in addressing key issues. This platform saves time in passing proposed amendment of critical importance to the large society, which involves subjects from all professional and unprofessional fronts.

Jurassic Park Summary :: essays research papers

Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler were among many people paleontologists that were funded by a wealthy man by the name of John Hammond. The two of them were visited by a man named Morris who was very interested in Hammond. Apparently he had leased an island of the west of Costa Rica. He had some kind of big development going on for the past ten years. He also had been buying large quantities of Amber which seemed useless due to it's low value. And Morris, being from the government, was very suspicious. Shortly after this visit the two dinosaur diggers were called by this man called Hammond. He wanted the two of them to visit him on his island. It was some type of biological preserve that would change the world in science and Hammond needed all the opinions he could get on if it would be safe. He called it, Jurassic Park. Meanwhile there was a young man by the name of Dodgson who worked with a rival company of John Hammond. He knew Hammond was on to something big having to do with dinosaurs. He met up with one of Hammond's employee's named Nedry who was the design of there park's computer system. Dodgson knew that they're company was some how recreating dinosaurs by making embryos. There was just one problem, they're company was ten years behind and would never catch up. Nedry ended up taking the million dollar offer from Dodgson for the embryo's that would change there whole company and update them on ten years of research. When Sattler and Grant arrived at the island they met up with other acquaintances of Hammond. There was the famous mathematician, Ian Malcolm. The big and rather rude man, Dennis Nedry. The intelligent scientist that was behind the whole park, Henry Wu. And the lawyer, Ed Regis. Soon later the rest of the visitors arrived. It was Hammond's grandchildren. And then, it was ready for the tour to begin. The tour consisted of six people. Hammond's grandchildren, Lex and Tim, Malcolm, Dr. Sattler and Dr.Grant, and Ed Regis. On the tour they saw many interesting things. There was real live moving dinosaurs! The walk around tour briefly explained how the scientists did it. First off they had to find amber which was tree sap that hardened a long time ago when the dinosaurs lived. In this amber contained many bugs such as mosquitoes which drank the blood of dinosaurs millions of years ago. This blood was then used to capture the DNA which would recreated an actual embryo that would soon turn into a live growing dinosaur.

Liberty Communication Satellite Phones Essay

Mexico is one of the leading markets for electronic goods such as mobiles creating a global business avenue. Like any other business, a number of risks face electronic goods. The objective of the paper is to conduct a risk analysis on Mexico for Liberty communications Satellite Phones Company a new business venture. Risk analysis in this case is an aspect of identifying risk factors that jeopardize the success of the new communication company in Mexico. The rules regulate marketing, supply and distribution of satellite mobile phones which affects operation of business. Communication through satellite mobile is regulated by rules made by politicians and thus the company is supposed to have adequate knowledge about communication rules. Another risk to be analyzed is exchange and repatriation of funds which relates to exchange rates. The company is supposed to consider the value of Mexican currency against other currencies to meet global standards (Fleisher Craiq, 2005). This risk occurs when currency trades badly against other currencies as it is a loss to the communication company. Competition is a general risk to any kind of business and thus Liberty communications should consider evaluating whether there is any other dominating company that deals with satellite mobile phones. Upon close evaluation of the communication sector, Liberty communications is bound to make sound decisions about that particular venture. Every business is bound to pay tax to government and this is a major area of concern by Liberty communications. The taxation rate differs from one business to another according to laws made by political entities (Culpan Refik, 2002). In certain instances, the rate of taxation is very high making business to pay heavily. The communication company should consider laws regarding taxation and double taxation. Marketing of satellite phones is a major risk that ought to be analyzed before venturing into communication market. The major aspects to be considered include the 4p’s such as product, price, place and promotion. Management at Liberty communication is supposed to consider putting satellite phones (product) at the right place (Mexico) at the right price and time (promotion). Once these elements are considered the company successfully ventures communication sector without obstacles. Distribution and supply chain is another major risk that should be analyzed as it can lead to poor trading. The company is bound to exploit certain royal customers with the intention to make maximum sales. Distribution of satellite phones is exposed to both physical and environmental risks which should be evaluated before venturing into the business. Social and cultural life of Mexican people is another major area that exposes the company to risks. The social life and cultural practices in Mexico have an influence in communication and Liberty communications is bound to consider such values. This is related to life style as it is influenced by technology and cyber. Management of Liberty Company should consider whether Mexican people have enough knowledge on technology as it is the main area of specialization. The Political Establishment in Germany Succeeded in Maintaining

The political establishment in Germany succeeded in maintaining the political status quo through a policy of moderate reform. How far do you agree? The junkers succeeded in keeping the existing political system the same through moderate reform, to what extent? When assessing whether maintaining the status quo in Germany was down to the effective use of moderate reform, we should also assess the effects of force maintaining status quo. Some would argue that it was indeed the use of moderate reform using Bulow’s reforms such as the tariff law and sickness insurance. However others would argue that it was the use of force, using ideas such as the Herero uprising. Some people may also use the policy introduced the Bulow called the Flottenpolitik. Furthermore; we should consider the economical and social factors which could have influenced this. The view that the policy of moderate reform succeeded in maintaining the political status quo; could be argued against by the fact that; Bu low’s strengths and interests lay firstly in foreign powers but he also implemented some reforms such as the tariff law in December 1902.This restored a higher duty on imported agricultural products which had a knock on effect on food prices which ended up rising. This helped maintain status quo because this would have made the public angrier henceforth could have made people rebel against the Junkers. Adding to this point; others could argue against moderate reform being the main cause of maintaining status quo on the basis that it was down to the use of force. To do this they could refer to the Herero uprising this makes clear the weaknesses of moderate reform maintaining status quo by showing one way that it led to the complete opposite; a rebellion. This uprising and how it was dealt with shows the strength and the forces and led to some members of the more conservative element of leadership of the centre part being cautious about challenging Bulow’s government. Thi s helped maintain status quo.On the other hand; Bulow created sickness insurance in April 1903 which gave ill workers longer and more generous help. This helped maintain status quo because this gave some people more reform which made people a little more happy which lowered the risk of them rebelling against the Junkers. Bethmann was Bulow’s successor as chancellor. He created reforms such as the imperial insurance 1911; this consolidated all previous workers’ insurance. This meant that some workers were now insured against sickness, old age and death. This also helped maintain status quo through moderate reform. Law such as the Sammlungpolitik also helped to maintain status quo; this law had the aim of trying to init people for the right wing leadership and take support away from the socialists. This was introduced by Bulow and he created a strategy called weltpolitik to achieve this take over the world using an army to unit people under the right wing leadership and a gainst the socialists which would help maintain the same political system and status quo.On the contrary to the above point others could argue that social or economical factors could have influenced this; for example workers wages were increasing (this made them the most urbanised state in Europe). This led to maintaining status quo because of something called the knife and fork question, this status that states that during periods of economical depression support for groups such as the socialists increase. This would be dangerous for the Junkers as they are left wing and conservatives (Junkers) are right wing.To conclude, the idea that the political establishment in Germany succeeded in maintaining the political status quo through a moderate policy of reforms can be supported using facts like how some of the reforms put forward by Bulow were successful at maintaining the same system and keeping people happy. However it can be argued against using facts like how some of the reforms put forward by Bulow and Bethmann were not successful and could be argued they did the opposite. When weighing these facts up its important to asses each of their impacts they made for example the unsuccessful reforms could be seen as having a bad impact of making the workers n happy with the system and lead to people rebelling this can be shown through the Herero uprising. The judgement I have reached is that. It wasn’t only down to moderate reform because other factors like force and also helped maintain status quo, due to the fact these factors could be seen as taking support away from the socialists which were the right wing leader’s main rival, therefore helping maintain the status quo.

No Better Elaborate Protective Environment Better Than essays

No Better Elaborate Protective Environment Better Than essays Religious opposition to The Pledge of Allegiance and flag salute appeared as early as 1918. Yet, the most famous case involving in Minersville School District v. Gobitis (1940) greatly challenged our constitutional rights to require students to salute the flag. Courts desicision rejected the claim of Jehovahs Witnesses from Pennsylvania who argued that requiring the children to salute the flag while in school was equivalent as to forcing them to worship an image that violated their rights to freedom of religion. After numerous times of reading and studying the case, I found myself in a great deal of opposition to the decision and opinions presented by Justice Frankfurter. Right from the beginning, it was inappropriate and wrong doing for the Court portrayed as balancing conflicting claims of liberty and authority. There is not a piece of law has been written in the Constitution states nor implies that schools interest in creating national unity is more important than the rights of t he students to refuse to salute the flag. Instilling patriotic ideals in our youth is a noble objective. Nonetheless, it is counterproductive if, seeking to accomplish that noble objective, we ignore the fundamental principles in the Constitution. Although the Courts decision was in favor of the Minersville School district, the decision seemed to have had some overtones of bias towards the Jehovah's Witnesses. One must remember that America was involved in World War II; a war that took many lives of American men and change the path of our country forever. It does make one wonder whether or not Justice Frankfurter could have had some bias towards the Jehovah's Witnesses because of this and other beliefs they might have followed. Refusing to salute the flag, or to participate in activities, which many consider necessary during this time period to promote unity within America, was looked upon as suspicious. Justice Frankfurter himself m...

How does ideology shape the way we think Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

How does ideology shape the way we think - Essay Example Adorno was a formidable and shrewd dialectician. A considerable amount of his hypothetical work centered on and emphasized the manifest tensions that exist intrinsically within dealings between opposites (Horkheimer and Adorno 2007). In Adornos comprehensive idea of a premise of the social, these dialectical associations function on different levels, and also with each other. Adorno’s Views on Capitalism. Adorno stated that capitalism provided people with the goods from a culture industry, which he viewed as being the opposite of proper art, to keep them passively contented and politically lethargic. Adorno observed that capitalism had not become more unstable or come close to collapsing, as Marx had forecasted. Rather, it had apparently grown to be more well-established. Where Marx had concentrated on economics Adorno stressed on the function of culture in preserving the status quo. Adorno stated that culture industries are constantly providing an artificial collection of sentimental and unsophisticated products that then substitute the more intricate and significant art forms which have the capacity to compel people to actually challenge the existing social life (Horkheimer and Adorno 2007). The desire for false, artificial, or unimportant needs is nurtured in people by most culture industries. These are wants and requirements that can be realized by the capitalist structure, and which substitute peoples real desires such as authentic creative happiness, freedom, and the uninhibited expression of human creativity and potential. Commodity fetishism, Adorno stressed, is encouraged by media and advertising enterprises. They are the existing proof that cultural experiences as well as social relations have been objectified for the sake of realizing profits. Consumers today measure the value of a product or service by their cost. Music products as well as popular media are also typified by pseudo-individualisation and
